The Regulator for Charities in England and Wales

History of the development of the Charity Tribunal process

Setting up the Tribunal

Secondary legislation

The Tribunals Service has been responsible for setting up the new Tribunal, including developing secondary legislation to govern the way in which the Tribunal will work in practice. The Tribunals Service carried out a consultation on the draft Charity Tribunal Rules.

The Charity Commission submitted a response to the consultation.

Recruitment

Recruiting members of the Tribunal was another important step taken before the Tribunal became operational. The Tribunal has a President, legal members and lay members. For details of the appointment exercises for these posts please see the website of the Judicial Appointments Commission, the body responsible for recruiting these members.

Other steps towards implementation

We also consulted on proposals to change our internal decision review process. Part of the reason for looking again at this process was to ensure that it fitted well with the way that the new Tribunal would work. We considered the responses we received and have made changes to the decision review process. The Consultations for the 'Decision Review' and 'Complaints and Customer Feedback' procedures are available on our website.
